Flipped Classroom Models

Flipped Classroom Models

Part 1b

1.  Research on the internet good practice flipped classroom models (ideally Further Education Colleges).

2.  Report to Dan on two flipped classroom models of what they can offer in terms of benefits to a course.

1.    Flipped classroom

Teacher records lessons outside of the classroom and sends teaching materials to students outside of the classroom.  Students watch videos at home online. Learners also make a research online, join their discussions through online forums or chats at home and do their homework and learn topics at home online. This is quite opposite to traditional classroom and is a type of blended learning.

Let me show you few good practices for flipped classrooms in Further Education Environment.  In Barnsley College we use Moodle

In Barnsley College we use Moodle where students can access at home various materials and resources for their course. If they do any course they want they can access their materials at home through Moodle. They can also collaborate together through online chats, forums and discussions. Teachers can also set up their quizzes or assignments. They can collaborate through creating wikis, build their own Wikipedia, submit their work through group assignments or get feedback.

You can also access courses online through distance learning like Open Study College or UK Learning College. These are distance online courses where you can learn at home and chat with your tutor online.

Let me show you benefits of two flipped classrooms models and what they can offer in terms of benefits to a course.

There are lots and absolutely lots of benefits for flipped classroom. Perfect example here is Moodle. In Barnsley College we use Moodle where you can access your courses online at home outside the classroom.  I listed few benefits of using Moodle flipped classroom model

Easy to communicate Students communicate with peers and tutors through chats and forums.

Easy to collaborate Learners create their Wikipedia these are group submissions where you submit work through assignment submission tool.

Easy to interact Learners take part in quizzes or games.

Quick to use The course pages are used to share videos or files

Easy to evaluate Tutor sends you videos or material to watch for your course, and then you submit your work to tutor and receive feedback.

Another example of flipped classroom model is storyboard.
Before teacher sends to students videos , teacher can use storyboard to plan ahead work for students and plan ahead how to organise videos, what to record before he sends it across.

Great benefits of using storyboard plan is that you are more organised

You manage your time more effectively

You prepare better lessons for your flipping classroom

Students learn quicker because they receive more structured lessons and videos from you

Flipped classroom versus traditional classroom

I would say there are lots of benefits of flipped classroom. Students learn at their own time, they can access flipped classroom 24/7 any time of the day or night, they pass much quicker than in traditional classroom, learners have much more extensive resources - they can research internet any time and have much more materials, students can concentrate better when they study at home and they can chat with their peers or teacher any time on forum or chat.

Here I found few examples of other flipped classroom applications models you can use

IPERFORM unique application and the answer pad.

Let's have a look at benefits of IPERFORM first.
Iperform is a unique application of the 70/20/10 model to overcome the blended learning challenges. Here are some brief advantages:

10 % Formal

Only 10 % of blended learning program concentrates on creating formal training. The main purpose of this is that you develop a basic knowledge and structure learning in a fail-safe environment.

20 % Peer

Spontaneous and unstructured. The main aim of this colleague learning is to engage the learner in collaboration with peers this can be done through online chats, forums.

70 % On-the-job

You can do this through practical job training and coaching plans to track your progress throughout the day.

Improves business performance in many fields like sales, customer support operations

Let's have a look at another model of flipping classroom.
